Knit One Purl Two was founded by Rita Rosenshein in 1985. Rita's home-based shoppe in Woodridge was for years a destination for summer visitors to the Catskill Mountains in Upstate, New York. Eager to purchase their "summer project", girls came from the bungalows, hotels and second homes by the carload to stock up on yarn, needlepoint and threads for the summer. Rita's was only opened during the off-season by appointment and on holiday weekends.
In 2000, Susan Gross returned to her hometown of Liberty, New York, after 30 years and opened her local law practice. Susan was a regular customer of Rita's and even worked there part-time on Sundays when the store was jam packed. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Susan wrote patterns for Woman's Day Magazine and yarn shoppes in New York City and Long Island, and you might say is a "yarnoholic". Susan told Rita that if she ever wanted to sell her store, she would buy it. And sure enough, in 2003, Rita decided to "retire", sold her house and sold Susan the business. With a customer list of 600 names and a new storefront in Monticello, Susan re-openend in April, 2004 and renamed it Knit One Needlepoint Too. |
